Rich Marafioti – Letterpress and Edge Painted Business Cards
Rich is my tattoo artist and wanted a professional yet cool looking business card. We decided to collaborate on the project by having him draw up a design for the back of the card while I focused on typography, paper and print technique. The end result was a two sided letterpress business card with red painted edges on 236# Savoy paper.

HOW Design 2011 Business Annual – Page 79
As other designers may know, creating your own identity isn’t the easiest task on the planet. I struggled for months to really capture who Miaso Design really is and what we are really about. Given the fact that my last name means meat in Polish, I based my design around meat packing. I used French butcher paper for the letterhead and chose triple thick chip board for my business cards. I had Accucolor Printing here in Chicago do the letterpress as they are the best in the business, and that’s just what I wanted to convey.
HOW Design Magazine was seeking entries for letterhead systems so I decided to submit mine. I just received the November 2011 issue and voila! Here it is. I am very proud of this accomplishment. You can get the issue here
Cheers!

Apostrophe Media Business Cards
My client, Apostrophe Media, asked me to design his business cards that would really pack a punch. He was really impressed with my business cards that are printed on triple thick chipboard. The result? We went for something a bit more fancier than mine. I decided to go with two color letterpress on front, and one color offset with a clear foil stamp on the back. The challenge? Since Steve wanted a thick stock, we had to duplex the cards in order to achieve the result. Sure it cost a bit more, but the end result was pretty bad @ss!
See for yourself!

New Client: LUNGevity Foundation
I am delighted to announce a new client! I have been designing the save the date, invitation and program guide for the LUNGevity Foundation’s Annual Fall Benefit. Three weeks ago I visited the space and took some great location shots of the benefit space. This year it will be hosted at the Ravenswood Event Center. Such an amazing space! I love working with non-profits. I feel fantastic creating beautiful work for such great causes! And yes, I did take this photo.

I love rain but this is ridiculous!
Sure the rain is great and makes all things pretty and green, but come on now! I don’t remember the weather being this rainy in a few years. Lighten up mother nature!
Walk this way…
It’s funny how I randomly meet future clients in the neighborhood. Well this particular client is very special. Lenny Clinton loves dogs. Probably even more so than I do. Around this time last year I went to my local Starbucks wearing my Italia track jacket to support my love of Italia and all things Italian pre World Cup (let’s not go there). As I was waiting for my drink, this man approached me and I was quizzed about Italian soccer. That man happened to be Lenny. He told me he has been walking dogs and wanted to really get the business off of the ground because of his love for animals. So, I told him if he was serious about this, to contact me. Well, after random visits and a crazy hectic work schedule, I was able to produce his new logo. He wanted something whimsical and fun, yet professional. So after a few rounds, this was his selection. I hope you enjoy it as much as he does!

Yes I paint…
Here’s one from the Relaxation Period while studying in college. I found this in my parent’s basement and it now lives in our office bathroom. While in school, I locked myself in a bathroom on the fourth floor for over a year painting various sections of the room – the toilet, sink, window. I sold another toilet painting about 12 years ago to a professor for his library study.

Fall is almost here!
Whew! What a ridiculously busy summer the Miaso Design team had. We are close to wrapping up a big web design project. Stay tuned for the results! We’ve also taken on some work for a new client in Washington DC! In other news, so glad the weather is turning cooler (yay fall fashion – boots and sweaters). I just wish the White Sox were in first place and going to the playoffs. But they had a pretty remarkable season so I can’t complain. Hope everyone had a great summer. Check back for more ramblings.
