Another CD Design for Inner Circle Music

In 2007, I was hand selected by Blue Note saxophonist Greg Osby to oversee and create the brand which is Inner Circle Music. I was humbled to be chosen to say the least. Over the last 2.5 years I have created over 12 album covers, the website and various other elements of the label. I felt pressure knowing Greg had some great work done for him while he was at Blue Note, so I had to give 110% of myself to the project. I will admit it was trying at first. I went to many outlets for inspriration. Reid Miles has always been an inspiration to me. Many artists have and not just graphic designers like Brody or Bass. The fine artists like Frank Auerbach, Lucian Freud, Masaccio, and Picasso have given me a solid foundation in art appreciation while studying their history and process in school.

Today I finished Harold O’Neal’s album design. I loved working on this project because the use of great photography allowed me to stretch my boundaries. I had misconceptions about the artist. While working with Harold, I wanted to capture a certain flavor and personality. I have learned that not only is he an accomplished jazz pianist, but he is also a break dancer and appeared in Jay-Z’s video “Young Forever”. So, my thought process was to fuse the two together. Take a look and let me know your thoughts.
